According to Haynes and Massie—:
'Decision making is a process of selection from a set of alternative courses of action which in . thought to fulfill the objective or the decision problem more satisfactorily that others."

Finally we can say that, decision making is a goal-oriented activity. It consists of all the activities that must take place before a'final choice can be made.

TYPES OF DECISION MAKING/DECISION

Decision making can be categorized according to how much time a manager must spend in making them, what proportion or the organization must be involved in making then and the organizational functions or which they focus.
Based on computer language, it divides into two basic types:
I. Programmed decisions
2. Non-programmed decisions

1.PROGRAMMED DECISIONS-
Programmed decisions are routine and repetitive and the organization develops specific ways to handle them. A programmed decisions might involve determining how products will be arranged on the shelves of a supermarket. For this, programmed decisions are typically made according to establish management guidelines.
2. NON-PROGRAMMED DECISIONS:
Non-programmed decisions are "one-short novel and unstructured nature, They deal with unexpected and unprecedented situation for example opening of a now branch. Therefore, no standard procedures can be designed for them. Each such decision has to be treated as unique case and tailor-made solution is needed, such decisions are generally made at higher levels of management,
Finally we can say that, programmed and non-programmed decisions. should be thought of as being at opposite ends, or the decision programming continuum.
